Gold is pretty easy to come by, a bit of forward planing,
The easiest thing IMO to get gold is visit the Sheriff's Station every hour and 15 minutes.
as soon as you can, plant potatoes and cotton everyday, as you get more money, plant more crops. this will give you a daily income,
buy animals, let them grow and then sell them for profit
collect water at every opportunity, sell your water from your inventory at 25 gold per bar
visit neighbours as often as you can
dont spend gold unless you really need to
if you really want to be comfortable with gold, maybe hold off on the quests, do what you can to turn a profit earn a fair, bit then go back to the quests .
